Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel Opens at $19 Million on Wednesday.

Even though a few chipmunks took the daily crown, the adventure to Pandora continues to impress at the box office. eRc Box Office has the Wednesday box office tally and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel snagged an impressive opening-day estimated gross of $19 million. The film opened in 3,656 theaters and scored a solid $5,197 per-screen average for the day.

Avatar may have dropped to second place at the daily box office yesterday, but the film scored its third straight $16 million day in a row, with an estimated daily tally of $16.5 million. While most films decrease steadily on a daily basis, especially during the week, Avatar actually showed an increase from its $16.08 million tally on Tuesday. The film has grossed $126 million in just five days.

Wednesday also marked the first day of wide release for Jason Reitman's critically-acclaimed film Up In the Air, which took in $1.7 million for the day and has earned just shy of $11 million for its cumulative box office run. Source: Movieweb.com
