We got our first look at Dominic Sena’s Supernatural thriller Season of the Witch last month when Lionsgate released a little teaser trailer. There wasn’t much revealed in the first trailer, and I wasn’t really that impressed with what I saw. There is now a full trailer that you can watch, which gives us a much better idea of what you can expect from the film.
The movie stars Nicolas Cage as a knight in the 14th century as he and his partner played by Ron Perlman, transports a girl suspected of being the witch behind the Black Plague to an abbey of monks trained in exorcising demons.
''A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch (Claire Foy) to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence. A priest (Stephen Campbell Moore), a grieving knight (Ulrich Thomsen), an itinerant swindler (Stephen Graham) and a headstrong youth who can only dream of becoming a knight (Robert Sheehan) join a mission troubled by mythically hostile wilderness and fierce contention over the fate of the girl. When the embattled party arrives at the abbey, a horrific discovery jeopardizes the knight’s pledge to ensure the girl fair treatment, and pits them against an inexplicably powerful and destructive force.''
Sena also directed Whiteout, Swordfish, and Gone in Sixty Seconds. All of his flicks have been pretty mediocre, but fun. I’m not expecting too much from this one.
