Marvel has finally released the first image of Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek) as Thor, the next Avenger we'll see on the big screen after Iron Man 2 opens next week.
Yahoo provides the picture. I didn't really know what to expect with this costume - since I'm not a Thor enthusiast, and I've never read any Thor comics - but I'll be honest: the reptilian arm design is throwing me for a loop. The rest of it looks pretty cool, and Hemsworth definitely looks the part, so ultimately I'm not concerned about the quality of this film until we see some footage that leads me to believe otherwise.
Other sites have been commenting about how the costume doesn't really fit in with the "real-world" vibe that we've seen in Iron Man, but I have this to say: the story is about a freaking Norse god. Of course not all of it is going to completely fit into the same aesthetic.
The film opens in theaters on May 6th of next year, so I'm sure Marvel will slowly be leaking more images for us to build awareness for a character that doesn't have quite the same name recognition as Tony Stark. Expect loads of stuff from Comic-Con in July. As always, we'll be here to report the details as they arrive.
