It seems a young actress has signed on for the latest installment in Wes Craven's horror franchise. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Emma Roberts has joined the cast of Scream 4.
The site reports that Roberts will play Jill, who was described as, "one of the film's primary heroines." It was also said that the film will return to the original Scream town of Woodsboro and Roberts' character will be similar to Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott.
"I'm so excited to be part of this ground-breaking franchise," says Roberts. "It's the perfect opportunity for me to do something completely different than I've ever done before." Producer Wes Craven adds, "Emma's talent, beauty, and range will add immensely to the sophistication, intensity, and fun of the Scream franchise as it returns to the screen once more."
Interestingly enough, our story from last week which revealed that Lake Bell, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin and Ashley Greene were in talks for roles in the film, it seems that Roberts' Jill is the character that Greene was set to play. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further news on Greene's involvement in the film as soon as we have more information.
Principal photography was said to start on the film at the end of June.
Scream 4 comes to theaters April 15th, 2011 and stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Simon Gruber, Bianca Cutrona, Lake Bell, Ashley Greene, Hayden Panettiere. The film is directed by Wes Craven.
