The wait is over, watch the A Nightmare on Elm Street Teaser Trailer!

Warner Bros.' New Line Cinema has hired veteran screenwriter Wesley Strick to pen the relaunch of the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" series.

The original Nightmare was written and directed by Wes Craven and released in 1984. The new project will keep the high school setting and delve deeper in the psychology of nightmares and Freddy Krueger himself.

A Nightmare on Elm Street stars Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Thomas Dekker, Kellan Lutz, Katie Cassidy and Connie Britton. It comes to theaters April 30, 2010.

Freddy Krueger Still Looks Like Freddy Krueger.

Providing some reassurance for Nightmare on Elm Street purists (if such a thing could exist in a post-Freddy vs. Jason age) worried about changes in the upcoming remake, Platinum Dunes released the above shot of the new, seemingly-unaltered Freddy, Jackie Earle Haley. Of course, the face is still hidden, so there's still a 50/50 shot one of the producers decided it would be "really cool" if Krueger's face was horribly disfigured save for this totally awesome goatee he manages to keep groomed.

Jackie Earle Haley in Final Talks for A Nightmare on Elm Street.

It seems that Platinum Dunes may have found its leading nightmare man for its upcoming remake. According to Bloody-Disgusting, Jackie Earle Haley is entering final negotiations to portray Freddy Krueger in Platinum Dunes' new remake, A Nightmare on Elm Street.

It was reported by Latino Review in February that Haley was indeed locked to play Krueger, and while that wasn't exactly the case back then, it seems to be moving towards reality now. Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that an official announcement should be expected as early as next week.

A Nightmare on Elm Street was said to start production at the end of this month in Chicago, with Samuel Bayer directing.

UPDATE: (4/3/09 1:30 PM PST) Bloody-Disgusting is now reporting that Kyle Gallner (The Haunting in Connecticut) has joined the A Nightmare on Elm Street cast as well.

It was said he will play the role of Quentin, a podcast host and seen as the equivalent of Johnny Depp's character in the original film.
